Nick Carnes was born and raised in Idaho and has been fly fishing for over 20 years. His wife introduced him to bass fishing on the fly and has been hooked ever since. His expertise is in panfish, bass, and sturgeon, and he’s passionate about all things fly fishing. By day he’s an airport rescue firefighter and he has an absolute love and respect for everything outdoors.

Nick can be found hunting or fishing in his free time with his wife and 3 hunting dogs.

Matt Carlson

Guide and Instructor

Matt Carlson grew up in the woods of Wisconsin. As soon as he could ride his bike he was visiting small streams and farm ponds near his home, often times disappearing before sun-up and not finding his way home until the sun was setting. Somehow the addiction grew as he got older! After high school he joined the United States Air Force and served a distinguished 20 year career. He traveled all over the United States and visited 40 countries around the world.

His fishing areas and styles have had to change over the years but his love for being on the water has not. Upon retirement he followed his hobby of bowfishing and opened his own bowfishing store as it was something the western half of the United States was
lacking. Luckily this opened the door to meeting Tim Parrish and eventual involvement in Hammett Valley Fishing Adventures. To this day there is still no fishing that excites him more than watching a float start bouncing while imagining what could be nibbling on the bait.
